There are two steps to register a company with the CIPC

  1. Name Reservation
  2. Company Registration

Name Reservation:

You are required to submit four names to the CIPC.

The CIPC will evaluate the names and search their database for the exact or similar name/s and make the decision on which name to reserve for you. The first on the list should be your first/main preference. The CIPC can decide to reject all proposed names if the names already exist or are similar/too close to existing names. The Cost for name reservation can be found on the CIPC website.

Company Registration:

When your name reservation is successful, the CIPC will provide a Tracking Number. You must use the Tracking Number to file for company registration through the CIPC website. On the website, you will have to modify/verify director and company registrations details. When done with the registration, you will receive a form from the CIPC which the director/s of the company must sign. The form must be submitted/emailed back to the CIPC using the provided Tracking Number as subject line. The email address to submit the form and ID copy to will be provided on the email that comes with the form from the CIPC. The Cost for company registration can be found on the CIPC website.

Time Frame

Before it used to take 1 to 3 days for name reservation process and between 1 – 6 weeks for company registration. Now with the improvements, it can take anytime between a day to a week. Sometimes the entire process can be one day.

Any delays can be caused by sending the form and ID copy to the wrong email address, or sending the documents in wrong file format. CIPC requires only PDF and TIFF file format. Using the wrong Tracking Number can also delay the process… in which you must start the registration process all over again. You will not be required to resubmit names.
